Hype Men podcast ep.1 w/ Jean Grae

August 26th, 2010 · No Comments

For those that aren’t aware, the Rosenthal brothers have joined forces with Jensen Karp for a new hip hop comedy podcast. And if you’ve caught any of the ItsTheReal sketches you know you’re in for some hilarious antics.

Hype Men is like a tree house built of metaphors and Jay-Z lyrics; it’s a talk amongst friends that’ll branch out into Best Week Ever territory; a place to start off discussing Cam’ron’s oeuvre and end up talking about Sesame Street’s The Count, with the two topics somehow tying together in a very seven degrees of Kevin Bacon game-type way.

In this week’s episode, Jean Grae joins the group to discuss BBQ’n with Lil Mama, run-ins with Tyrese, Slo’Down vs. Nelly, Talib Kweli’s left field collab with Gucci Mane, Nicki Minaj as the Highlander, Michael J. Fox’s bucket list and more.

Bruno Mars speaks on Cee-Lo’s “Fu** You”

August 25th, 2010 · No Comments

Continuing his rise to fame, Bruno Mars speaks with Cee-Lo about teaming up with Philip Lawrence (of the Smeezingtons) to help produce the Goodie Mob’s latest track.

Talk about the perfect marriage, we been fans of Cee-Lo for real. And we became labelmates and I was just feeding that to them. We got to get in. I know he’s working on something, we got to do something.’ So he comes in the session, and it was one of the most organic sessions.

We wrote a song and it’s not for radio, obviously, with the title. We’re probably gonna have to work on that. But it was a dream session come true; that was the ideal collaboration. Everyone was just putting their minds together and [we came] up with one of our favorite tracks we’ve ever done… He came in and we started singing it for him. And he’s just, ‘I love that, man. That’s beautiful.’ And we said, ‘Let’s go,’ and that’s all we really had — just that concept — and now it’s blowing up.

Also, Bruno revealed that his debut album Doo-Wops & Hooligans is looking at an October 5th release.
