(right now) I’m obsessed with Motley Crue. I know, totally late to the party. If this was 1983, that would probably be a very cool statement, but I missed to boat.
However I have a reason; I’m reading The Dirt, which I STRONGLY recommend you all jump on Amazon.com right now and purchase. It is the craziest account of what really went on in the era of 80’s rock decadence…the epitome of Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll….
That being said, I am now informed of Nikki Sixx’s life battles, and must say even though who knows if this is “true love” as they are calling it, I’m happy that at the moment he’s sober and in love with tattooed vixen, and professional rock star-girlfriend, Kat Von D.
Oh, and while we’re in purchase mode…Sixx has a new band; Sixx AM and their stand out track “Life is Beautiful” is definitely worth the $.99
Dropkick Murphys‘ The Meanest of Times limited edition hits stores on March 11th but is available for pre-order now at Newbury Comics; pre-orders include bonus tracks, a limited edition DVD, and cover autographed by the band.
Shock rocker Marilyn Manson has long been known for his drug use and distorted reality. One of his public favorites is Absinthe, which he illegally smothers into the U.S (along with skeletons of Chinese young and various other “artifacts” that are definately not allowed around these parts).
Several months back Manson revealed that he will be releasing his own breed of Absinthe cleverly titled “Mansinthe”…and here it is.
This hallucenegenic piece of rock paraphernalia can be yours for a mere $41 US and the cost of plane ticket to Switzerland…the only place the beverage will be sold.
If anyone is planning a trip to Switz, let Vicarious know! We’d love you to bring us back a bottle.
Good (not so old fashioned) rock and roll shows that it can still prevail with a #3 debut from prog-rock cult favorites the Mars Volta on today’s Billboard top 200.
The Volta’s past four albums have totaled over 1 million albums sold and counting with last weeks release of “The Bedlam in Goliath”.
They prove that with a solid touring ethic, die hard fan base and some good marketing skills-selling albums isn’t impossible.
Noteworthy of the Volta is that they are the first rock group to provide the option of purchasing a USB stick which includes their new album, full artwork, exclusive content, and will update on the 29th of every month with new features.

Mute Records is proud to announce Jose Gonzalez’ Green Tour of North America in the spring. The tour, which starts on February 29th in Miami, FL, is in partnership with Reverb(www.reverbrock.org), a non-profit organization designed to educate and engage music fans and promote environmental sustainability. They work closely with artists to create earth-friendly events and tours. As part of the greening of Gonzalez’ upcoming tour, his rider will include biodegradable catering products, and a reduction of plastic water bottles will be facilitated by providing his crew with re-usable water bottles to carry throughout the tour. In addition, Gonzalez and Reverb will calculate the CO2 footprint of the tour and neutralize emissions from venue energy use, ground transportation, flights and hotel accommodations by supporting clean renewable energy projects. There will be a 50 cent add on to general ticket purchases that will support Reverb’s greening efforts. Pre-sale ticket purchasers via Ticketstoday (links below) will also have the option to add an additional 50 cents to NativeEnergy’s CO2 Offset program. At the shows, fans will have the opportunity to purchase a custom Jose Gonzalez sticker, the money from which will be used to purchase carbon offsets generated from travel to and from the show. Reverb will also have a presence at the merch booth.
Gonzalez’ green tour follows tours this past fall with many sold out shows, and will see him showcasing songs from his latest record IN OUR NATURE (released Sept. 25, 2007 on Mute). The album Pitchfork suggested showed enough “talent to make good on those lofty Pink Moon comparisons,” won widespread acclaim, garnering inclusion on best of 2007 year end lists and securing Gonzalez spots on The Late Show with Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Kimmel Live. IN OUR NATURE has also been nominated for “Americana Album of the Year” by the 2008 Plug Awards (http://www.plugawards.com) and Gonzalez himself is up for “Male Artist of the Year”.
Music Today will do pre-sales for Jose’s new tour from Jan 7th-11th.
I kinda loved this song this past holiday season, sadly for me I was on vacation and driving around listening to the radio the whole time. Radio can really ruin a song.
Anyway, here is a totally awesome remix video of Travis Barker laying some drums over the track. I hope they really get in the studio together-Flo sounds hot with a rock overlay
for your viewing pleasure, vicariousmusic has posted a clip from next week’s One Tree Hill featuring a thesbian performance by Kevin Federline in which he plays an aspiring rock star.
Check out Moby’s new video for “Alice,” the lead single from his upcoming album LAST NIGHT! The video premiered on Monday January 7th on Pitchfork, who described the video’s frenetic visual collage as “something like late-night channel surfing” wherin “images of explosions, a bikini-clad woman on the beach, and the MCs themselves flash past.”
“Alice” was directed by Andreas Nilsson (The Knife, Jose Gonzalez) and features MCs Aynzil and the 419 Squad on vocals. Last Night will hit stores April 1st and signals a return to Moby’s dance floor roots, casting genre purism to the wind in favor of a jubilant eclecticism that references electronic, hip-hop (both old and new), euro disco, downtempo, and ambience. In addition to Aynzil and the 419 Squad the album also features Grandmaster Caz of Cold Crush Brothers on “I Love To Move In Here.”
Peep the video for “Alice” below and check out a 9 minute downloadable album sampler for a taste of what’s to come.
