With their kooky album artwork and back-to-front E or possibly 3 for
all the l337 |<1D5 out there, i knew this must be the same ot3p i once
listened to as a 16 year old full of teen angst and needing a shouty
female to look up to.

Once again i trusted my good friend wikipedia to tell me something i
didn’t already know. And it did! Until just now i was unaware that
Otep is actually the vocalist’s name, who incidentally is very hot and
i would quite like to see her naked. Wiki also tells me that Sharon
Osbourne fell so in love with this band that she offered them a spot
on the 2001 Ozzfest tour. I also can’t help but notice they have been
through a lot of drummers over the years.. spinal tap anyone?

Having also toured with Static-X and Bloodsimple i feel there is only
one way to describe this band- “nu-metal”. It seems like people hate
this genre name but it is nothing to be ashamed of. No matter what
your friends say, they have been a fan at some point, i’m sure!

The intro to this album is not quite what i remembered of them, an
eerie whispering/singing was coming out of my speakers and i didn’t
really know what was going on. I thought for a second i was listening
to some old creepy Tori Amos… until it broke into the clever,
creepy, quick lyrics i knew and loved.

I had always thought Otep sounded somewhat like Tairrie B of My
Ruin/Tura Satana fame and that thought is still with me. Although not
everyone’s cup of tea… this is another band that tickles me.

Although nu-metal is not all this band spews out, track 3, perfectly
flawed is a pleasant surprise. It is mellow and almost ballad-esque
but still has the same creepy lyrics you would expect and hearing the
lines, “You’re perfectly flawed, you’re perfectly incomplete…” makes
me feel 16 again.

The “niceness” soon dissapears as track 4, confrontation, comes
blaring out of my speakers. The politically fuelled anger in this song
makes me think that i would like to meet Otep and hug her.

All in all i like this album, it is what it is…female-shouty nu-metal rage.
And who doesn’t need some of that in their lives?

Artist: Bonde Do RoleAlbum: Marina GasolinaWhat I like: It’s beat and the remixes by peaches.What I don’t like: It’s annoying but annoying in a sort of good way.. It’s hard to explain. Like I absolutely hate it but love it at the same time. It’s good party music. And Marina is a hot chick on the L word, not that that has anything to do with this album, but..It’s considered electronic and I can go with that.. A lot of beats, similar to what’s out with M.I.A right now, although M.I.A is much better in my opinion. Horse the band- A Natural Death

Members-

So I had heard of this band before, but never heard them. I decided I
should google them and of course good old wikipedia came up with a
description that made me love them already; “Nintendo-core”.

The album art work by David Klein definitely appealed to me, like the
blood brothers got stuck in an old western. I hope they dress like
that all of the time.

Vocalist David Winneke has apparently been known to describe his
lyrics as “Lynchian” (referring to director David Lynch), being
brought up on Twin Peaks I can assure all you Lynch fans that you will
not be disappointed by this claim.

On first listen I felt like I was listening to Darkest Hour via Sega
Mega Drive but a more diverse range of music emerged as the album went
on. Track 3, the sparking secret of super sapphire, is more mellow and
creepy and then a little later track 8, sex raptor, is like the
best/worst 80’s dance music ever until you listen to the lyrics and
realize how morbid, eerie and ever so slightly NIN they are. I’d like
to feel Nathan’s teeth, I hear they’re long and hard.

Technically this band are awesome- vocals, guitar, bass, drums,
keyboards; everything is tight and solid. It is refreshing to find a
band now who don’t have any weak links.

With vocals reminiscent of Marilyn Manson, Alexisonfire, Sikth and
everything inbetween; this band tickles me in all the right places.

I feel like Horse the band are what Enter Shikari would like to sound
like in 5 years with some effort and refining.

All in all, if you like any of the previously mentioned bands or
simply cannot define your music taste- pick up A Natural Death and I
think you will be as happy as me.

So thank you vicarious music for being the matchmaker in this
blossoming new love affair with Horse and myself.

Back In Your Head - Remixes, Vol. 2 - EP - Tegan & Sara

First off, I love Tegan and Sara. I think their fantastic. Their single “Back in your head” is awesome! And they made this remix single of like three songs. The second one (RAC mix) is pretty sweet, other than that I prefer the original version. Most of the remixes on this album, I feel interfere with the awesome-ness of the original song. For all of you that don’t know “back in your head” Original version I highly recommend checking it out, if you like indie/girly-ness. I’ve been interested in Tegan and Sara for a long time.
Also, another thing about this album.. On itunes and other things they list it as “Dance” music which really it is not even close to dance music. I am a big dance/electronica fan and this is no where near what dance music is. So if that’s what your looking for in this “Remix” album of “Back in your head” you are going to be very disappointed.

A.F.I - Sing the Sorrow -

I know this isn’t their newest album but I’d have to say it’s the last one I’ve liked from them. I’ve listened to them for a very long time and even this album was a bit shocking. Their sound has changed so much! I do enjoy this album a lot though. The guitar solos and the melodies are very good. It is a very gloomy album. I just looked at their website ( afireinside.net ) And it looks like a lot has changed since I used to listen to them all the time. They have their first ever live album out now ( I heard a voice ) and it looks like the have a song on Guitar Hero!
Actually, listening to this album again today, I forgot how much I used to like them!! It reminds me of high school hah.. Oh man, my little high school dreams..

Essential Underground Hip-Hop 3- Various Artists

” I was listening to this cd and discovered someone new that I have never heard of and now like. AZ. I believe this cd was released this last april, so it’s still fairly new.  People have said very good things about this cd and I really have to agree. It brings a lot of the 90’s hip hop sound back, which I happen to enjoy a lot. I’m sure you can find a website, where you might be able to sample some of the sounds. I would highly recommend that. I don’t know very much about hip hop but I really enjoyed this cd and I hope you all do as well. Check it out! Also, be sure to check out the songs by AZ on it, they are my favorite!

Hurricane Chris - A Bay Bay Single
I like this song. It has a good beat, and makes me laugh! I believe he’s touring right now, and actually later this month he is scheduled to be on one my local radio stations here in Minnesota, for an interview. This single is great for a club, and of course if you’ve been to any of the local clubs in the last couple of months, I’m sure you’ve heard it. It really gets the crowd goin. He’s only 18 years old and damn, for being 18 he’s made a name for himself!! I’d recommend this to anyone that likes to dance, loves a good beat, and likes to laugh a little. I love it. “A bay bay” The way it’s spelled simply makes it ten times better.

Bjork - “Volta”

For all of you who don’t know this amazing singer/songwriter.. Her name is Bjork. She is from Iceland, a beautiful country with very low crime, she states in her autobiography. She was in a punk rock band in her younger years, The SugarCubes. Her most recent album, Volta was released May 2007. I sat up until midnight listening to our local radio station for the debut of her single for this album. It was very exciting and did not disappoint. This is her sixth album and I don’t love it any more or less that the others. As always she uses many different sounds that create the stories in her songs. She was at Coachella this year which I didn’t have the opportunity to go to.. Very upsetting.. I hear it was absolutely amazing though! The brass in this album is beautiful and amazing. Timbaland produced the song “Earth Intruders” on this album, I suggest you listen to that one.
If you love Bjork, I’m SURE you will love this album. If you’ve never heard of her before, be sure to listen closely… There’s a lot going on in her songs!
