Kill the monopoly-stop Ticketmaster

July 14th, 2008 · 3 Comments

We knew something was fishy! Last week we tried to buy tickets to Eddie Vedder at the United Palace Theater in NYC.  Tickets went up on Ticketmaster.com at 1PM and at 1PM on the nose (we watched the time change from 12:59 as we were clicking through) tickets for each of the 2 nights were no longer available…

However, we were directed to what was sold as a ticketmaster sister site, Tickets Now.  We quickly realized that Tickets Now was no more than an online scalper with prices guaged from the original price of $79.00 a piece to topping $500.00.  The time? 1:01 PM.

Apparently we’re not the only ones having this problem. Click here about the fight to stop Ticketmaster.

I had the same experience…it’s total bullsh#t….(especially the link the ticketmaster’s “partner site” which was charging 3x as much for the tickets) …I was online at 1pm exactly and after about 15 minutes did a seperate search to find that not only at least 10 broker sites but ebay and craigs list had tickets listed for both the nyc shows. (apparently all the tickets…before we could finish typig in the stupid illegible security code words…) This is beyond pathetic…although I have never ended up with what would call “good” seats using ticketmaster, this is the first time I never even had a choice…and for Eddie Vedder …..how ironic…although I can’t imagine he wants to go down this road again, I almost wish he would cancel his shows …just to fu#k them like they are fuc#ing the musicians and fans that are forced to deal with them!

it’s hard to stop them. just look at the google ads on this page and where do they point but to the biggest fee sites in the business. i’ve recently been using freeticketexchange.com. it’s a cool site and a cool concept where I can make offers and add things to my want to list and say the price I want to pay. but they have high priced tickets too…at least there are no fees so I saved a little. I think it’s all just about waiting for the deals. ive seen prices go up and down. Let’s see if Eddie Vedde says anything this time…or maybe he is getting a cut?

Ticketmaster is a RIP-OFF! I would never say the artists and bands and such we purchase tickets to see thru Ticketmaster are not worth the $$, but I for one, would be much happier seeing this money go to the artists themselves! I mean, what is the difference between this and ticket scalping really? Maybe with the wave of technology, individual bands/labels/venues will start making tickets available online thru them personally, and we can eliminate these fee for service rip-offs! I could almost live with it if it were a small fee, but the fee prices are absolutely ridiculous!

    Peace…
