Hawthorne Heights…
November 26th, 2007 · No Comments
From Hawthorne Heights site (Saturday).
Our warmest regards!
Today is probably the worst day ever. Its with our deepest regrets that we have to write this. Casey Calvert passed away in his sleep last night. We found out this afternoon before sound-check. We’ve spent the entire day trying to come to grips with this and figure out as much as possible. At this time we’re not sure what exactly happened. Just last night he was joking around with everyone before he went to bed. We can say with absolute certainty that he was not doing anything illegal. Please, out of respect to Casey and his family, don’t contribute or succumb to any gossip you may hear. We don’t want his memory to be tainted in the least. Casey was our best friend. He was quirky and awesome and there will truly be no others like him! His loss is unexplainable. As soon as we know more we will let you know.
Sincerely,
Hawthorne Heights
Eron, JT, Micah and Matt

This weeks review brought to you by Katrina.

A.F.I - Sing the Sorrow -
I know this isn’t their newest album but I’d have to say it’s the last one I’ve liked from them. I’ve listened to them for a very long time and even this album was a bit shocking. Their sound has changed so much! I do enjoy this album a lot though. The guitar solos and the melodies are very good. It is a very gloomy album. I just looked at their website ( afireinside.net ) And it looks like a lot has changed since I used to listen to them all the time. They have their first ever live album out now ( I heard a voice ) and it looks like the have a song on Guitar Hero!
Actually, listening to this album again today, I forgot how much I used to like them!! It reminds me of high school hah.. Oh man, my little high school dreams..

Ohio is for Lovers…

and legal drama….

MASSIVE legal issues involving their label Victory Records and their previous management firm Wild Justice are holding up the release of Hawthorne Height’s 3rd album.
In a nutshell (and layman’s terms) Hawthorne Heights and Victory Records have not so privately had some problems which has prompted the band to jump ship and land themselves at Virgin Records.
However, they owe Victory 2 more albums according to their contract.
So although they are not prohibited by the terms of their contract from recording with Virgin, they still have to deliver the goods to Victory…
On top of it-their managment is suing them for breach of verbal contract. Hawthorne Heights claim the suit is a “misunderstanding, that will be rectified soon”.
Messy….

Rock Band made it’s official debut yesterday, much to the dismay of Red Octane and Activision (Guitar Hero makers) I’m sure…
We haven’t gotten our hands on it yet, but if you have, let us know what you think.

Nice version of this song…I’ve never seen Mary dance in a video when she didn’t look like a Thug or a guy.
Nice mashup!

A good album is more than a collection of singles.
November 20th, 2007 · 2 Comments
Some people find it hard to understand my man Jay-Z’s decision not to let iTunes break up his American Gangster album and sell it as single tracks. They say he’s fighting the future and losing out on sales from fans who only want to download singles. But I say it was a stand somebody had to take in the music industry. Jay is speaking for all of us.
He’s not the first. He’s not the lone cowboy in all of this. Radiohead and AC/DC have turned their backs on iTunes for the same reason. Doug Morris, the CEO of Universal Group, has been fighting Steve Jobs on this for a minute now. But Jay is at a level people are going to pay attention to. He’s had 10 number one albums. He may run Def Jam but he’s also an artist who put his heart and soul into something that he wants people to hear all the way through. As the creator and investor, he has every right to demand this.

Early Soundscan Forecast
November 20th, 2007 · No Comments
Now we all know by now how much I love Wednesdays, so usually I avoid reading all the official and unoffical soundscan forecasts that start circulating Monday of every week.
However this week, being one of the most crucial in the industry, essentially the last chance for labels to deliver albums for the year and have them hit big for the holidays, but before radio turns to Xmas programing, I decided to take a peek…
And its GOOD! It’s all GOOD! If even for a minute we’re back baby! All top 10 albums estimated to sell over 100k with A-Keys leading the pack with what is looking to be 750k first week sales.

Also in the Top 10 will be Zeppelin’s re-release of Mothership and the Eagles selling ANOTHER 200k.
