360: Return of The Real Live Show

This just in! The reports of hip-hop’s untimely demise have been greatly exaggerated! Living proof of this fact was furnished in the form of living hiphop legend, Rakim Allah rocking the mic to the utmost extent at the emminent live venue Southpaw in Brooklyn on May 19th, 2007. The Real Live Show –a live hiphop band based out of NYC which may best be likened to The Roots on sonic steroids with two immensely talented MCs Stimulus & Dionysos– also brought the crowd to a frenzy with their kinetically charged, rhythmically replete, masterful live instrumental set played by Chris Rob, Ray Angry, Maurice Brown, Joe Blaxx and champion turntablist DJ Colt Seavers in Blues Brothers garb.

Just for good measure, as though the forementioned names were not enough to completely convey the magnitude of this evening in hiphop culture. A certain KRS-1 surprised all present by coming through to support Rakim and blessing the mic alongside Rakim at the beginning of his set. For anyone who calls themselves a fan or a lover of hiphop music, this night was truly heaven on Earth. The vibe was electric and the energy in the room was pulsating through the bodies of all present. Every body could feel what was happening. This was history in the making.
Did we mention that May 19th just happens to be the birthday of one El Hajj El Malik Shabazz? A man more widely known by the moniker, Malcolm X. This was a show that certainly would have made him proud. The best that hiphop culture have to offer and those at the vanguard of progressive movement within the culture united. One crowd, one stage, one night… and four mics. That was all that it took to make the circle complete.
The Return of The Real Live. 360 degrees of fresh MCs. It looks like MC season again.
