Talk about vocal sustenance….

I’m not going to lie, I like the cock rock. Female lead singers, they just don’t do it for me. Regardless, I can’t deny the insane vocal prowess and champion performance give by Shingai of the Noisettes last night at Mercury Lounge. She tore through their 40 minute set, showcasing her remarkable range and vocal gymnastics-hitting every note, yell and scream.

Perhaps most impressive was when she turned off the mic on the second to last song of the set and sang acapella…I could hear her loud and clear from the back of the room. She has some chops on her.

As for the rest of the band, they could just as well be hired musicians. Though they gel well musically, Shingai is the show. Poor guys, no one’s going to care about them….
