The Band blends new-wave electronics, danceable beats, disco guitars and Behrens’ uncompromising vocals for a sound that recalls Daft Punk and The Clash.

Didn’t get to catch them at the Bowery, but saw them two days prior at the Rock ‘n ROll hotel in DC. I’m not one to gush about live performances, but several of us in the collectively stunned crowd of 200 agreed it was the best live show in 5 years. While Thomas Turner (wearing a cape) alternates hiding behind a workbench of keyboards and hopping over to play the drums, Aaron Behrens is thrilling with the most compelling stage performance I’ve seen. Their live sound was a little warmer than their CDs, and Behrens’ evangelical charisma kept everyone staring at the stage–no smoke breaks, no beers. If Freddie Mercury and David Bowie sang “under Pressure” from the same body, dressed slightly like a new wave native american, you might get something about 50 percent as cool. You’ll probably get laid if you see this with a date.
